Vote: A New Sculpture For Spitalfields

Love it or hate it, the redeveloped Spitalfields Market has certainly been a welcoming space for public sculpture. Off the top of our heads, we recall the giant clay pipe thing, the pointy red church piece, some mis-aligned granite blocks, a memorial to the Civil War defences and a huddle of imposing red letters - all within a few feet of one another in Bishop's Square.Continuing this recent tradition, eight sculptures have now been shortlisted for the Spitalfields Sculpture Prize 2010. Have a flick through the gallery below, choose your fave, then go vote here
(or in person in the foyer of the Allen & Overy LLP offices on Bishops Square, where models of the designs can also be found). Voting ends at 4pm on 7 February 2010.
By Cinimod Studio. This one has a weird lighting effect, illuminating stylized accoutrements of the dressmaking trade (that's a silk cocoon at the bottom, since you ask).

By Elpida Hadzi Vasileva. A graceful, interactive sculpture, which visitors can walk through.

By Kenny Hunter. It's a goat. On a plinth. Take that, Antony Gormley. The crates represent the waves of migration into this quarter.

By Nick Hornby. There's more to this one than meets the eye from a static image. Six shapes characteristic of the area have been incorporated in its form.

By Paul Friedlander. A modern take on the idea of the gateway (viz nearby Bishopsgate), but also a timely nod to airport security scanners.

By Ryan Gander. Ostensibly a pile of rubble, the design will also see '50 school children from around Spitalfields will...choose the two most precious things in the city to include in the sculpture.'

By Tod Hanson. Shaped like a dressmaker's dummy, this design taps local traditions of brick-making and textile work.

By Wenqin Chen. A 10 metre-tall column of red eggs, to characterise the 'energy of the area'. Go figure.
