This Time Next Year, Rodney…

The tower block used as the location for Only Fools and Horses – note: not actually in Peckham – is being torn down in a regeneration project. The South Acton estate has been used for filming Welcome to Sarajevo and next year’s Brighton Rock as well as Del Boy and Rodney’s home, but from 2011 Nelson Mandela House (known to locals as Harlech Tower) will be no more. We see no cause to lament its passing if it means residents get a better quality of life. We’d even hope it meant the end of Only Fools retreads, but they seem to have relocated to Greenwich instead.

May I ask where this info came from? There is definitely plans to demolish Blackmore Tower and, I believe, Pickwick-both located at the south end of the estate. But this is the first that I’ve heard Harlech mentioned.

News specifically about Harlech comes from the Standard; they’re quoting someone from Ealing Council, so presumably it’s kosher.

Let me first correct myself above-I meant Kipling Tower not Pickwick! Too much festive cheer on my part I suppose.

Looking at the article on the Standard’s website, the Ealing councillor does not actually mention this block and I cannot find a reference to its demo on Ealing’s website. Hmm.
