Christmas Day approaches. For some, it veritably looms, with its statistical promise of a family row before 10am. If you're lucky enough to be spending it on your own in London and find yourself wondering what to do with all that free time, we've got a few suggestions...

Londonist favourite and all-round good guy Simon Aronson of The Making Space (pictured) is throwing open his doors for a Christmas Day make-fest of chainmail, masks, canes and anything else you fancy. He's charging nothing for the privilege, and he'll be collecting donations for Soft Power Education who carry out education work in Uganda. Register here (2-8pm, free, E2 7LF).

London + Christmas = Dickens' Christmas Carol. Fact. And the Dickens Museum is presenting a candle-lit reading of that most Christmassy tale in the museum with proceeds going to charity. The admission fee includes a glass of mulled wine, prepared after Dickens' own recipe, Christmas cake or minced pie, a gift pack and access to the special Victorian Christmas exhibition. Call 020 7405 2127 or email info@dickensmuseum.com to book (6.30pm, £12/£6 kids, WC1N 2LX)

If you're more of a post-paranormal-visitation Scrooge and want to give your Christmas day to someone less fortunate, you might still be able to get your application in to help out with Crisis. In particular, they're looking for "night owls, people in Stratford, opticians, befrienders and massage therapists."

We'd recommend booking for the events above. We'll follow up next week with a few more last minute suggestions.
