BTP Get Tasers

A report in the Standard suggests British Transport Police are starting a three month pilot scheme of issuing Tasers to BTP's special response teams. The 50,000 volt stun guns have previously only been used in London by the TSG and the Met's firearms units. We were a bit perturbed by the thought of one being pulled in a packed carriage by someone with an itchy trigger finger, but it's highly unlikely; the unit in question is the one called to reports of suspicious packages and chemical / biological incidents on the network. Though given that this team seem mainly focused on dealing with the clean-up parts of dangerous operations and likely to be on the scene after the perps have fled, we wonder what the point is.
