Heathrow Terminal 2 Closes Today
Heathrow Terminal 2 is closing down today to make way for a major new state of the art building. Terminal 2 is the original terminal of Heathrow, and has seen several hundred million passengers come and go. Regardless of the fuss around T5, the third runway and novelty climate change protests, it's quite an occasion to have the last people check in and the last flights take off from what was originally known as the Europa building, and this deserves a little sentimental song. The best tune for this is one plucked from somewhere over the rainbow...
Somewhere just beyond Southall
Big planes land
At a place that's named Heathrow
Especially at Terminal 2.
It's due a brand new building
For 2014
So today it shuts down 'til then
And all flights will go to T4
It opened 1955
The Queen came to the ceremony
To bless it.
The Beatles, Royals, Sinatra too
Monroe, Paltrow, 8 million a year
All passed through there.
Some time in the near future
When work's complete
We'll judge how good the upgrade is
By how long the queues can be.
The last flight to land here today
Is Air France, from Paris...
... then goodnight, au revoir.
