How To Celebrate Thanksgiving In London

thanksgiving-images-pictures.jpg It’s that time of the year when Americans celebrate with friends and family over an indulgent autumnal feast otherwise known as Thanksgiving. With the ever-growing American population in London, Thanksgiving is becoming an increasingly favourite event abroad. From house parties and barbie cook-offs to elegant three-course dinners, London plays host to a wide variety of Thanksgiving offerings. Hungry people – you may not want to read this right now.

On the traditional (and cheaper) side of things, we suggest Bodeans a barbecue joint offering a three-course meal of turkey, stuffing and, best of all, apple cobbler and pumpkin pie for £18.95. All Star Lanes, the 50s retro bowling alley, tempts you with pumpkin soup, roast turkey and pecan pie at £17 for 2 courses and £20 for 3 courses. The Diner is serving up turkey, stuffing, green beans, sweet potatoes, corn and cranberry relish for just £9 while The Big Easy ‘bar b.q. and crabshack’ has dinner with all the trimmings from £20 to £30 as does Chicago Rib Shack.

If you’re after something a bit more up-market (and pricey!) then have a look at Babylon at Roof Gardens, the rooftop bar and restaurant that will have jazz along with Thanksgiving themed dishes. Christopher’s American Bar and Grill, the opulent space inspired by the Chicago Palm Restaurant, has a three-course set menu from Waldorf salad, Norfolk turkey to pumpkin pie with bourbon cream for £40. The East Side Inn from NY raised chef Bjorn van der Horst has a £45 set menu including pecan pie with apple and cloves. Next up is The Missouri Angel, a transformed pub to stylish restaurant serves Modern American Cuisine. Opened just two years ago on Thanksgiving Day, they will again offer a three-course meal including dishes such as parsnip soup, blackened rib-eye steak and pecan maple tart. Last but not least, The Reading Room at Claridges is offering a traditional southern style prix fixe menu for £70 per person including clam chowder, crushed succotash and pumpkin tart.

If all this is a bit much but you’re still curious about the holiday, why not order take away meals from Villandry, Konditor and Cook or even Waitrose. Now all you now need is a few (or more than a few…) bottles of wine. Check out Odd Bins Californian selection. Happy Thanksgiving!

    Happy Thanksgiving

Well it’s finally here! Thanksgiving London 2009! It’s Thanksgiving Day in America, time for turkey and football. We can take care of your turkey, and we’ve got some Pro Football to boot!

We’re going to be having a great Carvery meal of traditional Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings and real pumpkin pie! Along the way were going to watch some American Football with 400 or so fellow Americans for good times and good fellowship.

Our 8th annual Thanksgiving dinner brings together the expat American community from all over the UK. I can proudly say it was, for many years the only public American Thanksgiving available in London.

    The Carvery
We will be serving Traditional Turkey Dinner, including real Pumpkin Pie! Stuffing, Gravy, Brussels sprouts, Mashed Potatoes, Roast Potatoes, Green Beans, Carrots and Cranberry Sauce! Vegetarians get Nut Roast with Veg Gravy instead of Turkey. There will also be limited Beef and Lamb available as well as limited housemade alternative desserts (to Pumpkin Pie) as supplies last.

    The Football
We have live Sky American Football on Sunday

There will be two live NFL games on at 6:00 pm and at 9:00 pm. the teams playing are yet to be announced.

We’re going to be showing Friday nights Denver Broncos v New York Giants or Dallas Cowboys v Oakland Raiders game (if we can tivo it~ TBC) from 3:00, so try not to watch it. Otherwise its NHL hockey with Montreal v Washington or College Football, no hoops on Sunday.

    The Kids
This is a kid friendly event. All under 7’s come free. Age 7 and older pay the standard charge. We’ll try and dig up last years Macy’s parade, but cannot promise. A good option is to show them the live steaming here:

    The Pub
The George is a great, historic Tudor pub right across from the Royal Courts of Justice.
