Digital Cloud Thing Proposed For Olympic Site

Plans to build a 'digital cloud' above the Olympic site have emerged. An international team of architects propose this staggering 120m structure as part of the Mayor's competition to build an Olympic landmark. The design would see a three-storey blanket of plastic spheres perching on top of a trio of stilts - quite unlike anything seen outside of Willie Wonker's chocolate factory.

The 'nest of nodules', as we'd like to dub it, would act as an observation deck and a display for digital information feeds - perhaps a visualisation of the most popular Olympic search terms, weather data or a readout of anything tweeted with an Olympic hashtag.

The designers suggest crowdsourced micropayments as a means of raising funds. The structure is scalable to the level of funding - the more they get, the bigger and better it will be.

We like. It's bold, original and is sure to royally piss off the traditionalists. Better yet, the design might tempt West Ham into using the Olympic Stadium in legacy. Imagine the resonance with their traditional singalong of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles. And will the Cloud Appreciation Society add Cumulus digitalis to their spotters' guide?

It looks expensive, fragile and pointless and I want it oh-so-much!

This is the sort of epic and unecessary construct that Gerry Anderson promised us as children...

-totalgeekmode- In fact, it looks a little like the London Car-View from Captain Scarlet... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPaaH5HCrkQ -totalgeekmode/-

This is absolutely amazing! I hope it goes ahead, it will definitely make up for the rather pedestrian stadium.

The BBC report said this:
"We could provide a custom feed of…searches made by Londoners during the Olympics to give a real time 'barometer' of the city's interests and mood,"

So basically we are going to have giant bubbles of porn floating over the city?

Where do I contribute?

I am ready to make my micropayment.

Moreover, what's with the sinister Morphy Richards/War of the Worlds stadium lighting set up in the 5th pic?
