Anglo-Saxon Gold Haul Reaches British Museum

0311_helmet.jpg The hoard of booty unearthed from the Staffordshire fells will go on display today at the British Museum. The 1,500 items, which experts believe date from the times our Angle and Saxon forefathers stomped their bear-hide boots across the land, were discovered by a plucky man with a metal detector earlier in the year. Archaeologists were stunned by the find, some tinged by jealousy that a mere amateur could find such a huge collection, and others dismayed at the potential for the objects' mistreatment in the "wrong" hands. The hoard is on display at the Museum from today; entry is free.
