Real Life 'Not Like TV' Shock

police car.jpg London's crime rates are not the same as those in The Wire, according to Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson. Dismayed by politicians' seeming fondness for gaining publicity and whipping up a fear of gang culture by making a baseless comparison to a fictional TV show, he pointed out that London's murder rate actually falls somewhat short of Baltimore's. The curious comparison was made by Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling after a visit to Manchester's Moss Side. The surprising news that real life isn't at all like television doesn't just affect the police - it seems the glamour of Casualty and Holby City doesn't prepare nurses for the gritty reality of the NHS and the public now have 'unrealistic expectations' of MI5 from watching BBC drama Spooks.
