Break out the houmous pots and organic veg box! King’s Place, the concert venue and home of the Guardian Media Group and Network Rail, has won the hotly-contested ‘Best Commerical Workplace’ award, an annual gong presented by the British Council for Offices. At a lavish ceremony this week, the canalside building beat four other entries to walk away with the prize. It was praised for “[altering] the common understanding of what is commercially possible”, and also for its technical achievements, with judges noting in particular the expansion of the originally-planned 250-seater auditorium into a much bigger space, a decision that “demonstrated huge faith in the spirit of the project”. Locally-brewed ales and holistically-sourced vol-au-vents all round at Guardian Towers, then!

I do enjoy visiting Kings Place – I think they’ve done an excellent job making it work so well as offices, gallery, bar, concert hall and a general meeting space. My only grumble is the cost of some of the events (£11 for a science debate?).
