Double Blow For City Clubbers

News from clubland guaranteed to make the ravers among you feel sicker than that time you spanked £60 on a pair of pills that contained paracetamol and little (e)lse: one of Shoreditch's longest-running clubs is shutting down, while councillors in nearby Clerkenwell are clamping down on the area's burgeoning nightlife.

Kingsland Road's Herbal has been forced to close due to what it describes as "unfortunate circumstances". It's known that the club's license was shortly up for review by Hackney Council, who'd been tipped off by police over increasing problems of crime and disorder. With the nearby T bar also closing recently (albeit simply to move to a new home), it's the second major Shoreditch venue lost in just a few months.

Clubbers looking to get their groove on won't find much sympathy up the other end of Old Street, either. Councillors in Clerkenwell are to prohibit the opening of any new pubs, clubs, or bars, after declaring the area "saturated" with watering holes. Existing licence holders will also be monitored more diligently. Local residents presented a petition last week calling for the move, and cowed councillors crumbled like a poorly made pastry, agreeing to their demands without much fuss.
