Make Do & Mend at John Lewis

We might not be spending as much in Oxford Street's department stores as in previous years, but that isn't going to stop John Lewis from trying to get us at least inside the store. Recognising that we might be trying to doll up old clothes rather than buy new ones, the Oxford Street store will be one of four across the country inviting customers to learn how to 'Make Do And Mend'. Having reprinted and jazzed up for the modern day old school government information leaflets with tips for maintaining clothes and the home, the store is inviting us to bring in old clothes we fancy revamping and plonking us down in the haberdashery department along with someone who knows exactly what they're doing.

From darnings up holes to picking some sparkly new buttons to revamp your favourite cardigan, you'll have two hours of expert guidance all for free. There's only 10 places on the course, but if you can get involved it sounds like a great use of a couple of hours. To reserve a spot, drop the store a call on 020 7629 7711 and ask to register for a Make Do And Mend place at the Haberdashery Department.
