In Pictures: Cinéphilia West Opening Night

Last Friday, Cinéphilia West in Notting Hill, opened to the public.

A "home for all lovers of cinema" that, as the name suggests, is inspired by a love of and reverence for the moving image, Cinéphilia West is spread out over two floors of a smart building on Westbourne Grove, with a ground-level exhibition space and café that spills out onto the street, and a basement area comprising screening facilities, bookshop, and DVD store. It's run by Wallflower Press, publisher of Electric Sheep magazine and various specialist books about cinema and the moving image.

Cinéphilia West is itself the offshoot of a popular bookstore in Sclater Street, near Brick Lane, which is popular with the Shoreditch hipster set, and they're banking on attracting the nearby Portobello Road crowd to the new place. The opening exhibition gets off to a good start, showcasing Polish film poster art for American films: it's already inspired a fun guessing game, while forthcoming events include the launch of Electric Sheep's Autumn issue on September 10th and a talk with Sally Potter on September 27th.

Cinéphilia West, 171 Westbourne Grove, London W11 2RS. Open 8am-6pm Mon - Fri, 10am - 6pm weekends
