Not the new MacBook
Sometimes the oldest trick in the book is the one that brings home the loot: Haringey council officials have busted a scam at White Hart Lane market in which punters trying to buy a laptop were given the age-old potato switcheroo and walked off with a bag of King Edwards instead. It was just one of a number of scams the investigators turfed up at the market: counterfeit goods were seized by police, while a gambling game in which audience plants lured unwitting gullibles into financial mishap was also broken up. A Haringey councillor warned people to be wary of such scams, but if you're the kind who'd fork over money for a laptop on Hookey Street, there's probably little hope for you.
