Film Preview: Michael Haneke Season

2909_haneke.jpg In anticipation of his Palme d'Or-winning new film, The White Ribbon, which is released in November, Close-Up Video are hosting a season of Michael Haneke films at the Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, E2.

The Austrian auteur, who has made a career out of prodding at the bleeding heart of bien-pensent liberal thought and society's representation through the media, is represented by five films from across his career. Tonight at 8pm is the first part of his 'glaciation trilogy', The Seventh Continent. The trilogy continues on subsequent Tuesday nights with Benny's Video and 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance, before moving onto the chilling home invasion tale of Funny Games (the original, not the director's own Hollywood remake) and, finally, Haneke's most acclaimed film to date, The Piano Teacher.

The Michael Haneke season takes place on Tuesday evenings throughout September and October, at Working Men's Club, 44-46 Pollard Row, E2 6NB. Tickets to each film cost a fiver, or free to Close-Up members.
