Stupid Amounts Of Rain Soak London, Spoil Londonist Event

rainypavement.jpgThe commingled wrath of Tlaloc and Jove was unleashed on the capital last night when half the usual August rainfall came in just six hours. Five underground stations were closed and Londoners drenched as the heavens vomited. The Evening Standard deployed the phrase 'Chaos for commuters' for a record 892nd time this year.

Caught in the middle of the deluge were a plucky group of Londonist readers, heading out on a free guided walk around the Strand area. The tour lasted all of 200 metres, as we scarpered from Treadwells book shop to the Lyceum Tavern for a soggy pint. With the rain showing no signs of easing up, we soon abandoned all hope of completing the walk. We'll now try and rearrange for a later date, so watch this space if you'd like to join us on what will hopefully be a more clement occasion. Image / James Guppy.
