In fact, the rain eased off as we wandered up Champion Hill and Camberwell was transformed into a lush and leafy oasis harbouring intrigue and strange tales. The Straycationers – ranging in age from 3 months to over 50 – trundled along happily in search of the Camber Well and the Peckham Ghost, pondered the potential dreadfulness of a triangle of land between two roads and learned about the ghost of Aleister Crowley’s father-in-law and the bizarre revelations that happened on Crowley’s honeymoon. Finishing up at the Hermits Cave pub, we were treated to a stunningly beautiful dusk sky and a rainbow at the end of the walk.
Straycation continues for the next fortnight – NB today’s walk in Burgess Park is CANCELLED due to the small matter of Carnaval del Pueblo taking over the park.
