Preview: Roundhouse Poetry Summer Slam

roundhousesummerslam.jpg Roundhouse doesn't shout about it much but their poetry workshops bring on great talent - both Yemisi Blake and Jasmine Cooray came through their programme and now Jasmine is one of the judges of the Roundhouse Poetry Summer Slam, a spoken word competition for 11 to 25 year olds. This Wednesday at the final, she'll be sitting alongside London Word Festival stars Inua Ellams and Tom Chivers among others, including the heartbreaking, straight talking 'Somali Sista', Warsan Shire. London Liming recently blew us away with the prodigious talents of Caroline Bird and Deborah Stevenson, both still young enough to participate in this slam, so we can't wait to be bowled over by the fierce finalists out to impress with their frisky verbal dexterity. Tickets are just £1.50, show at 7pm, Wednesday 19 August.
