A teaser for Open House Weekend: 24 flights up Balfron Tower by D I C K S D A I L Y

This week: big babies, old clowns, Beatlemania, an almshouse, sexy vampires, counter culture and the best free heads up of the summer...

Thursday: As part of First Thursdays catch the first night of Bettina von Zwehl: Profiles III exhibition of photographs of larger than life one year old babies at the Museum of Childhood, Bethnal Green, 6-9pm, free (plus some beers if you're lucky).

Friday: Find out everything you never knew you needed to know about clowns at the free monthly opening of an exhibition from the Clowns International Archive between midday and 5pm at Holy Trinity Church, Grimaldi Memorial Corner, Hackney.

Saturday: Residents, drivers and bus passengers of the Abbey Road area, BEWARE. Today is the 40th anniversary of THAT photograph. We suggest you find somewhere else to go - maybe the Greenwich Park Thai Festival - as doubtless THAT pedestrian crossing will be carnage all day. For Beatles fans, however, go hang out with others intent on recreating THAT album cover. For the love of John, please leave your ukeleles at home though.

Sunday: Tour an historic restored Almshouse courtesy of the Geffrye Museum, £2 or join us at the Horniman Museum Jerk Cookout between 1-6pm (but you'll need some readies for the tastings).

Monday: Hugely popular modern vampire movie "Let the Right One" in is screening for just £3 at the Roxy bar and screen, today and tomorrow.

Tuesday: Open House Weekend pre-booking registration opens today. No need to go out.

Wednesday: Ahead of Notting Hill Carnival at the end of the month, get down to Housman's book shop at Kings Cross and get the lowdown on ‘The London Free School: Notting Hill 1966 - Counter Culture, Community Action and Carnival Roots’ for free.

What are we missing? Please let us know about events in your area that are free or cheap to attend to include in our essential weekly round-up.
