Preview: Cupcakes, Cross-Stitch & Cocktails

Urban Cross Stitch logo Bleak out there, isn't it? War, disease, recession, inflation, crime, it just never stops. Take a break from the unrelenting diet of gloom this weekend as Urban Cross-Stitch celebrate their first birthday with a party that draws together some of the finer fripperies in life.

A "cornucopia of threads and patterns of every imaginable colour and design" is promised at the party, which takes place this Saturday at the Queen of Hoxton. There's also live music from Bad Land Revival and Straight Edge & Get Square, plus a selection of cocktails and cupcakes, of which the latter can be dipped into the former for a delectable treat.

For those unable to tell their thimbles from their thumbs, or simply too wasted or stuffed to be entrusted with a set of knitting needles, there will be plenty of games on offer and, should the weather grant us but one afternoon's worth of sunshine, the rooftop paddling pools are a fine spot to cool off in.

Urban Cross Stitch Party, at the Queen of Hoxton, Saturday 1st August, from 2pm. Free.
