Diving Hopes Heighten For 2012

Tomdaley.png With 3 years to go we've not only got London 2012 Open Weekend to celebrate but a homegrown young athlete who looks well on his way to doing us proud in Zaha Hadid's Aquatic Centre. Fifteen year old Tom Daley dove practically to perfection to win gold on the 10m Platform at the World Championships in Rome today. Woop woop! Meanwhile, Dame Rebecca Addlington was also making headlines, pooh poohing 'go faster' body suits as "technical doping" and calling for them to be banned. It's a move that makes us cheer for its spirit of fair play, hard work and natural talent, but it's also one that may jeopardise her own chances at adding to her Beijing success as she swims in Rome this weekend for the 400m Freestyle and next Friday for the 800m Freestyle in her "ordinary" Speedos. Come on Dame Becca! Detail from image of Team GB, 2008, by Anne Johnstone
