Wandsworth Gets Green Plaques

Wandsworth Council will make like a set of 18th Century teeth and cover the borough in green plaques. The distinctive discs will embellish the homes and work places of famous former Wandsworthites. Just like Blue Plaques. But green. The list of potential dedicatees is impressive: David Lloyd George, Daniel Defoe, Edward Gibbon, Voltaire...Ainsley Harriott. The first plaque will be unveiled this month during the Wandsworth Heritage Festival, and will mark the birth place of Clement Atlee in Portinscale Road, Putney. An estimated 20 further plaques will follow in the next five years. The new roundels will complement the 22 blue plaques already gracing the borough. Image from Mayorwatch.
