Vini di Famiglia Wine Festival at Carluccio’s

Until the 1st of August, Carluccio’s (we’re sure you’ve seen one of their Italian caffè/restaurant/foodshop outlets around town) is hosting Vini di Famiglia, a celebration of Sicilian wines. Bar and training manager, Michael Stocks, invited Londonist around to Carluccio’s Marketplace restaurant recently for an agreeably al fresco evening sampling these Sicilian wines along with a few tasty picks from the menu.

Among the offerings, the Planeta Alastro (a fruity Grecanico/Chardonnay blend - £12.50 for a bottle) was especially easy to drink; indeed, the evening started and ended with this one. Along the way, a few glasses of Planeta Ceresulo (Nero D’Avola/Frappato blend - £12.50 for a bottle) masterfully accompanied a plate of pasta con funghi (egg pappardelle with a mix of shitake, oyster, porcini and button mushrooms - £6.95) while a velvety Carthago Mandrarossa (Nero D’Avola - £15.95 for a bottle) did nothing to diminish the fegato e patate (pan fried calf’s liver with red onion jam and sautéed rosemary potatoes - £11.75).

Of course you don’t have to be part of London’s greatest multi contributor blog to try these wines and others. Carluccio’s is holding complimentary tastings every Thursday from 6pm-8pm until the 30th of July. Visit the Carluccio’s website for more details.
