Sydenham Arts Festival runs from 3 to 12 July. There are over 40 cultural events taking place in this pocket of South East London including an open air screening of the Bride of Frankenstein in Home Park, a John Hegley poetry night and the opportunity to follow The Odyssey round Sydenham Wells Park with promenade theatre ‘Fan Made’ from London Bubble. The festival has its own Flickrpool, created by Londonist reader Kieron Helsdon. The pictures therein will then be shown on screens around the festival so contribute your Sydenham shots and join the Flickrpool here.
Ealing Summer Festival takes off on 4 July until 2 August and we can’t quite believe the scope of it. Encompassing the Ealing Jazz, Comedy, Blues, Opera and Global Festivals plus the West London Literary Festival we’re bowled over by its hugeness and variety. And last but not least, it’ll be rounded off by the London Mela in Gunnersbury Park on 16 August. West London, we salute you!
Over in Kilburn the locals will be Making Waves from 3 July, incorporating the Irish Film Festival at the Tricycle and building up to a big day out in Kilburn Grange Park on 12th July. A week of music, film, comedy, walks and arts events are promised but the website doesn’t yet have details so watch this space.
And Lambeth Country Show returns for the weekend of 18-19 July in Brockwell Park. Combining livestock and the funfair, bric a brac and reggae this is a truly top community fair mixing up the best of the city and countryside.
If your borough or neighborhood is having a summer spree this year, preferably featuring a big free park based celebration, let us know!
