Postal Strike Hits City Today

If you're propped up by the letterbox this morning waiting for Mr. Postie to deliver your copy of Vanity Fair, best make yourself comfy — he may be some time. Up to 8,000 CWU members are on strike today, accusing Royal Mail of arbitrary cuts and not following through on modernisation plans. CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward accused the company of "failing on the big picture" and not bringing in the right machinery, while Royal Mail say that they have honoured existing modernisation deals. The city's three main post offices remain open, meaning many parts of central London are unaffected; CWU must surely envy the RMT's city-crippling abilities. Affected postcodes are E, SW, N, NW, SE, and W2-W14, while if you're in EC, WC or W1, you're unlikely to notice any problem. See Royal Mail's service update for more.
