The singer’s last wrangle with high culture ended somewhat unfortunately, with a widely derided position on the Orange prize judging panel that she ended up quitting due to ill health. She should fare better in her new, less demanding gig as the face of the National Portrait Gallery. A lascivious looking Lily portrait by Nadav Kander is being used for the NPG’s new poster campaign, which encourages people to “take another look” at the Gallery. Those vexed that such a fine institution is resorting to tugging in Joe Public by a bit of celebrity flirting may be reassured by Ms. Allen’s campaign companions, who include jazz musicians George Melly and Ronnie Scott, alongside cheese-wheezer and Blur bassist Alex James.
