Blind Folk Protest Naked Road

1706_exhibition.jpg Guide dogs and their owners amassed outside City Hall this morning to demonstrate against the "shared surface" scheme planned for Exhibition Road in Kensington. The part-pedestrianised remodelling of the road, which some exciteable flunky has nicknamed "naked", was criticised last month by a local residents' association, and today members of Guide Dogs for the Blind made their objection in person, demanding in vain that Boris Johnson meet with them. The Mayor is funding the project to the tune of between £13 million and £25 million, but critics argue that guide dogs rely on the pavement to safely guide their human charges. A similar road-share arrangement already exists arond Seven Dials, an area some blind people say is a no-go zone for them.
