Airline BMI is considering setting up a daily flight between London and the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. According to a report in the Financial Times, the carrier thinks the gradually improving security situation, and the country's "desperate" need for investment, offers a great opportunity for a commercial link, particularly at a time when the aviation industry is keen to exploit any new market. While the route could be in operation by next spring, don't expect Lastminute.com to be offering city breaks just yet -- BMI expect the service to cater mainly to expats and businesspeople. Aviaphobes will hope that the standard practice of corkscrewing when landing in Baghdad is no longer in use.
