Europe's largest anti-racism festival, which the Mayor crippled by stripping its founding message last year and then cancelled for good in April, is the subject of a 1,600-name petition that supporters will today present to the London Assembly. The UpRise campaign is calling on the mayor to revive the popular Finsbury Park festival, which was axed when key union backers dropped out after Boris squashed the anti-racist theme in 2008; however, with a slim number of signatures collected (considering that the festival attracted upward of 100,000 people) and a City Hall unwilling to foot the £500,000 bill, a rebirth seems unlikely under the current regime.
