Camden Crawl: What Not To Miss On Friday

By now we hope you've downloaded our 65 free mp3s of artists playing the crawl and formed some ideas of what you want to see. If you're just going to roll with it and dart wildly between venues here's our tips for what you must not miss on Friday.

If you're leaving work early, things are kicking off from midday with a variety of afternoon activities. Last year we arrived at 3pm and spent an hour queuing to pick up our wristbands so we'd advise you get there as soon as you can. Comedy is high on the agenda with the Camden Tup hosting the likes of Mitch Benn and Nick Doody and Fifty Five presenting the award winning Pappy's Fun Club amongst many more (both from 1pm). If you want to show off your music knowledge Highgate's famous music quiz Who Killed Bambi has two sessions in the Edinburgh Castle (1.30 & 4). We're going to be a team of two at the moment so feel free to join us! Music starts early at the newly reopened Hawley Arms where Camden acts will be performing acoustically from 2.30, Gigwise present Indie Idle from 3pm at the Buck's Head and the World's End feature The Brute Chorus and Magna Saga amongst many others from 12pm.

The main events start at staggered times from 6pm with The Virgins opening The Roundhouse. Underworld, Electric Ballroom and Koko all open from 6.15 with all other venues kicking off at 7pm. Koko will be our first location to see Norwegian electro poppers Datarock before hot footing it up to Chalk Farm for the tropical delights of MIA coherts De Tropix at 7pm. Fifteen minutes in we'll face the classic Camden Crawl dilemma of whether to leave something ace in the hope of getting in somewhere else as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs crank open their new disco vibes all over the Roundhouse. If it's too busy we'll head back into Camden to try to catch the end of Kitsune electronicas Chew Lips or go straight to Koko for the best sarcastic commentators in the game, Art Brut (7.30).

At 8.10 we face our biggest clash. If you want pop check out new Xenomania duo Mini Viva at the Cuban bar, Goldielocks brings her snarky female rap to The Black Cap, the gorgeous Alessi's Ark present a much more chilled out option at the Jazz Cafe or spiky new London band Little Death.

Things get much simpler after that. At 8.45 leg it down to Koko to see a bit of Manchester electro kids The Whip before leaping on the tube down to Mornington Crescent to catch the end of the latest hyped band from Oregon, Hockey (from 9.00).

Geeky synth songwriter James Yuill has been cranking up the blog love over the last few months so he'll be our 9.20 stop at Enterprise. All eyes will then turn back to the Cuban Bar where one of our favourite new popstars Marina & The Diamonds takes to the stage. She's our pick of the day and your must see.

Catch you on the crawl. Follow us on twitter.com/londonistmusic for the latest updates from Camden!
