World Cup 2010 Coming to Hyde Park?

England.jpg If this happens, it'll be brilliant: Hyde Park could become an official "fan park" for the 2010 World Cup. Every host city in South Africa is getting one, and the Telegraph got a tip-off from one of the organisers that London is also on the consideration list. With England looking well on course to qualify (turn around three times and spit), we reckon Hyde Park would be an idyllic spot to relax on the grass, neck a few beers Danish-style and watch them lose on penalties in the quarter-finals. Much nicer than humid jostling for a space down the pub and peering round people's heads to... watch them lose on penalties in the quarter-finals. Such a green and pleasant environment might even discourage the kind of punch-up seen in Canary Wharf during the last World Cup. If London does officially get a fan park it won't be without controversy though; FIFA's due to decide who hosts the 2018 World Cup a few months later, and wouldn't want to be seen to do us any favours.
