Free Tonight?

Is there anybody there?

Greenwich might seem a long way to go of an evening, but a trip to the Royal Observatory tonight will transport you several hundred million kilometres further. 'Islands, canals and little green men' examines early efforts to explore Mars. Before the days of rovers and orbiters the only tools for making sense of our neighbouring planet were the telescope and the imagination. The Royal Observatory’s Dr Rebekah Higgitt will explain why eminent astronomers believed they were seeing canals, oceans and cities on this barren world. The talk starts at 7pm and tickets cost £5. You can book in advance by phoning 020 8312 6608, or emailing bookings@nmm.ac.uk before 4pm today.
