Not for the faint of heart, A Basement of Dolls - New Works in Oil by British painter Suzzan Blac (aka the Goddess of Gore) opens tonight at Resistance Gallery (in collaboration with Strychnin Gallery). This new collection of works explores the pressures exerted upon women by the media to conform to outside standards of beauty and become merely ornaments of sexual desire. Blac calls attention to imposed concepts of beauty and intimacy by depicting women with mutilated bodies adorned with lingerie and other stereotypical visuals of a sexualized point of view, such as exaggerated lips, doll’s bodies or stylized reproductive organs, vividly colored hair and overdone make-up.

Happy Friday the 13th/Valentine's Day.

A Basement of Dolls opens tonight from 7pm onward at Resistance Gallery (265 Poyser Street, Bethnal Green, E2 9RF) and features a live performance by The McCarricks.
