It’s hard to get excited about yet another new tower proposal approved by the City of London—especially when we read that construction won’t start until 2013. Yawn, yawn and thrice yawn.

But then we learn that the curvy edifice planned for 60–70 St. Mary Axe carries the nickname ‘Can of Ham’, thanks to its (vague) resemblance to a tin of Spam (other reconstituted pig products are available).

The 24-storey Can of Ham joins the Cheesegrater and Gherkin in an east City skyline increasingly based on a Famous Five picnic. All that’s missing is the ginger beer.
