A controversial development next to Battersea Power Station is in for a nip and tuck. After local opposition (some of it inept), 50 m will be lopped off the so-called 'Dyson' tower, with reductions in its waistline and capacity. At 250 m, the stunted highrise will still soar taller than 1 Canada Square if plans are approved next year. The £4 billion scheme from developers Treasury will also see the old power station restored as an entertainment complex, 1.25 million sq ft of office space and construction of a privately funded Tube station. If the huge project seems overly ambitious, remember that pigs have been known to fly over Battersea before.
