Astonishingly, London's only 10m diving facility in Crystal Palace whose club is busy fast-tracking talent for 2012, and was responsible for the discovery of 3 of the diving team currently getting the jitters in Beijing, is facing closure due to rent arrears.

It was already in trouble when it shut last September when asbestos was found and an alternative dry training facility had to be found. The club lost thousands on membership fees, as only the most dedicated stayed on. Now, with rent on the temporary site soaring, arrears still to cleared on the refurbed pool and elite coaches to retain, the club is under serious threat.

They need cash, lots of it, and quick. Else our local hopefuls for 2012 will be forced to commute to Sheffield to train. Former champion and director of the club, Chris Snode says, "all the money is going on the Olympic build and we haven't got a penny towards helping our Olympic hopefuls".

So dig deep, London. Visit Help London Divers, read about our potential Olympians and pass this appeal on.
