Kick-Ass Croydon

Fed up with attention being focused on its crime rates and general roughness, Croydon is fighting back with the help of its very own super heroine. And we’re not talking about the e-less sort that normally seems to pepper the streets of this ailing borough.

News reaches us today that the new Lara Croft is actually none other than the very lovely Alison Carroll, a soon-to-be-former-receptionist from Croydon. She is to be the face of the all-action character from Tomb-Raider, following in the boot-clad footsteps of Nell McAndrew and more recently Karima Adebe.

She looks fun, and as an experienced acrobat certainly seems fit enough for the role, although her PR team might need to, er, work on her wardrobe.

This is also a sure blow for feminism, although Londonist has to admit that we’re not sure in what direction: as the face that adorns millions of adolescent bedroom walls and a similar quantity of old-enough-to-know-better garage doors, it could be argued that this is one stereo-type too many. But we’re inclined to believe that our Lara has just as many female fans whooping every time she kicks butt. Harmless but thrilling fun. Go, Alison, go, we say.
