Music Preview: Beach House & Wild Beasts

BeachHouseNew2-1meg.jpg
If you love indie guitar music, but are bored to horrible tears with the current bunch of Strokes and Arctic Monkeys clones, then listen up. Or, more to the point, click here and get tickets for this gig before they sell out. The tiny Cross Kings venue is hosting the fourth Club Rockfeedback night on Friday 13th June, and the line-up is once again superb.

First on the bill are Domino’s new signing Wild Beasts. Their new single Devil’s Crayon is really quite special, and you can watch the video here (please avoid if you have a phobia of moustaches. We warned you). The northern 4-piece veer between minimalist afrobeat-inspired rhythms and crunching, pounding, rock goodness, topped with stunning operatic melodies. Vocals are at times a dead ringer for Antony Hegarty (of the Johnsons fame), and at others resemble the screeching of, well, wild beasts. What an intriguing group.

Next up are headliners Beach House. Over from Baltimore, the duo are purveyors of blissful downtempo psych-pop, reminiscent of acid-era Beatles with a touch of triphop. If you can’t make it on the 13th June, Londonist suggests you fight tooth-and-nail for a ticket to Beach House’s upcoming support slot for the amazing Fleet Foxes at ULU on 11th June, which is sold out.

Wildbeasts release their debut album ‘Limbo, Panto’ 16th June on Domino, and are touring as support to Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. Beach House are touring the UK to promote new album Devotion, released on Bella Union in February 2008. Join up to the Club Rockfeeedback mailing list here.
