BREAKING NEWS: Major Traffic Accident, Tower Bridge

There has been a serious traffic accident in central South East London, near the London Dungeon, not far from City Hall.

A double decker bus crashed into a tree, killing one woman and injuring a further 19 people. The accident happened on the corner of Tower Bridge Road and Tanner Street. Police are reporting this as a major incident.

UPDATE: 12:10pm No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Of the 19 injured, four are said to be serious injuries and have been taken to hospital. The bus was travelling south on the 188 route between Russell Square and North Greenwich; bus routes 188, 1 and 42 have been diverted from the area, and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.

UPDATE: 1:30pm This incident occurred at approximately 9.30am today, the bus was carrying approximately 20 passengers. The woman killed was allegedly a pedestrian, not a passenger on the bus that crashed. The bus driver was seen to clutch his chest and collapse after the crash, suggesting he suffered a heart attack. Eye witnesses have described to part of the tree falling into the path of the bus, and it was not the case of the bus hitting the tree.
