Art Hotels to Open This Summer

The decor of hotels can be something of a mixed bag: It can be very elegant, it can be very tacky, and it generally has a store-bought look to it. But the generically named Guest Hotels group has found a way to dispense with all of these generalizations. Starting this summer, the five hotels will become galleries for contemporary artwork for guests to enjoy. Having recruited staff from the ICA and Design Museum to help oversee the arts club, and partnering with the ICA, the V&A, and other non-acronymable galleries, Guest Hotels is hoping to give their visitors an exclusive look at the cutting edge of the local arts scene.

Two of the five hotels — both in Bayswater — will be launching the arts club this summer with the others to follow next year. Guest Hotels is also offering a Conceirge Club that will put you on the guest list for galleries and special exhibitions around London and will even throw in a free night at one of their hotels. The introductory rate is comparable to the cost of a night's stay at one of the hotels, so if you're a hardcore art lover, this might be a good excuse to take a holiday in your own town.
