TFL announced today that it's starting a trial sponsorship deal for their website with Yell.com.
What is it with TFL and yellow advertising at the moment? Ikea have painted our travelcard wallets with golden sunshine and leapt onto the back of the pocket sized tube map. Now be warned that Yell will be cropping up all over your journey planner in time, no doubt linked to your chosen destination. From the looks of things, they will be Google Ad style listings in a fairly crappy looking box.
This is believed to be the first such deal for a public sector organisation with "revenue that will be ploughed back into improvements to the Capital's transport system". Personally, we agree with Annie Mole, that if you're going to sell out, do it in style and get companies sponsoring entire trains or carriages - especially if they'll make them pretty.
