Still a newcomer to the city festival circuit, Field Day returns for a second year to Hackney's Victoria Park on 9 August 2008. The recently announced line-up looks like it should provide a diverse sampling of some of our favourite acts. How could we miss a party that Richie Hawtin, Dan Deacon, The Field and Jeffrey Lewis are rockin'?

Unfortunately that question seems to have loads of answers that all involve the word "queue". The common complaint from attendees of Field Day's inaugural year was that the festival had a massive shortage of bars and toilets, resulting in increasingly longer wait times for both throughout the day. Admitting that too few facilities breeds misery regardless of who's on stage, the organisers responded with a post-festival apology and vowed to correct this oversight next time around.

We're a forgiving lot, especially when you woo us with an impressive itinerary of quality techno and indie acts, so we're willing to give Field Day another chance. No one likes a grudge-holder and, after all, last year was their first attempt. Everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes that mistake results in you being sober and having to pee really bad. With the talent on offer this year, any music fan would do well to find a bit of forgiveness in their heart, and if all goes well, we'll be dancing because we love the beats and not because we're bursting for the loo.
