NFL Update: Saints v Chargers at Wembley?

Saints02.jpg

News is breaking across the pond that this year's NFL fixture in the UK will be back at Wembley Stadium after all, with the New Orleans Saints hosting this season's losing Superbowl "semi-finalists" the San Diego Chargers on October 26th. San Diego president Dean Spanos, a member of the NFL's International Committee, reportedly in negotiations over the game almost since the first Wembley match ended just over two months ago, commented:

We want to go. I'm cautiously optimistic.

The big personality matchup in prospect would be between the acknowledged king of the running backs, LaDainian Tomlinson of the Chargers, versus his heir apparent, Reggie Bush of the Saints. Both teams boast plenty of other star names and are in general attack minded so, if the Wembley ground staff can get the surface right and if the drizzle holds off this time, we should be in for a more exciting game than the inaugural event last year when the Miami Dolphins fell 13-10 to the New York Giants who are preparing for next Sunday's grand finale against the New England Patriots. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to make a formal announcement about the fixture in his Superbowl media conference later this week.
