Part 12

More than half the characters on this dedication are given over to the benefactor's magnificent name. But who was he, where is this plaque, and what happened to the fountain?

Transcription: "A fountain given by his highness the Hon Marharahah Meerza Vijiaram Gajapati Raj Manea Sooltan Bahadoor of Vijianagram. K. C. S. I. stood on this site from 1867 until 1964"

Ah ha! Hyde Park!

As for who he was or where it is now, I have no idea. A bit of internet jiggery pokery suggests that it might now be somewhere else - according to "The Urban Landscape of Hyde Park: Adrian Stokes, Conrad and the topos of negation" by Stephen Kite it was 'moved' in 1964. The hunt is on!
