Londonist Introduces: Remi Nicole

What's the skinny?

Remi Nicole is the latest London based singer-songwriter to get a buzz going about her. Signed to Island Records late last year, Remi is 23 and a veritable London melting pot of Austrian, English, Trinidadian and Jewish backgrounds. But she's a North London girl through and through having lived in Holloway, Islington, Highgate, Tufnell Park and Highbury.

She might be young, female and sassy, but Remi Nicole isn't just the "new Lily Allen". For starters, forget the backlash we're still very happy with Lily herself, but while Lil makes our pop side dance with glee, Remi instead belongs on the indie side of the fence, citing the Gallaghers as major influences.

And as you'd expect from any candid star, she's well aware that preconceptions about her colour probably mean everyone is expecting her to make hip hop singing "They said you're not normal, why don't you sing R&B?/ I said I got no rhythm and I got no blues, I'm as happy as can be.'" in the marvellous "Rock and Roll"

Why do we want to know this?

Her first single "Fed Up" is out this week on Island Records. It's a bit too acoustic for our likings much preferring the infectious b-side "Go With The Flow". And if you've got tickets to those rescheduled Amy Winehouse gigs at the end of the month, Remi will be Amy's support act. Alternatively catch her at Chalk at The Scala on May 26th or Proud Galleries on 20 June.

Check out her myspace, and official page.
