Gridlock And Gloom?

Bank holidays are great, aren’t they? London is emptying as we write with the motored up masses departing for gridlock on motorways around the country and we're all looking forward to getting to the pub as soon as feasibly possible. Possibly sooner.

With the warmest April on record just behind us and the glorious sunny weather this week, records numbers are predicted to pile out of the capital and shack up at the seaside, reach rural retreats or jet out to the continent pretending it’s already summer. Unfortunately, the weather ain’t predicted to be that great come Sunday and Monday so, for us lot left loitering in town, what jollies can we find to distract us from the damp?

- Masterminded by the irrepressible Jonzi D there’s everything hip hop, street and graf at Breakin’ Convention at Sadlers Wells all weekend. Word.

- Join traditional, folky, artsy, outdoor May Day shenanigans in Battersea Park on Monday. Go inside a Big Top tent, join free artist-led workshops and events such as greening a giant Jack-in-the-Green sculpture, costume making, try maypole and morris dancing, singing and clowning, go hey nonny no and make your own banners and placards for the climactic, noisy and well pagan procession.

- Club yourself stupid on a three day bender or go on several exploratory pub crawls.

- Or if you can’t be arsed with any of that and it’s pouring with rain, go see Spidey.
