Random Graffito of the Week

brookeshieldsalphabet.jpg

And by 'random', this week we really do mean random. OK, so it's just a shitty bit of scawl on City Road, but is there anything more behind the message 'Brooke Shields Alphabet" that we're not getting? Is it some kind of advert for the V&A's surreal exhibition?

Your theories please.

UPDATE: All reported sightings are mapped here. Please add further examples to the comments and we'll map those too.

Theres one on No. 77 Shaftesbury Avenue as well. Sounds like a band name to me, or some other viral marketing :)

user-pic

And one on the westbound Central Line platform at Oxford Circus.

user-pic

Also one on Great Marlborough St, near the back of M&S...

user-pic

And one on Arundel Street, WC2, on the way down to Temple tube. What's with this?

user-pic

I saw one somewhere in Notting Hill earlier in the week...

user-pic

One on Buckingham Palace Road diagonally opposite the coach station. Same handwriting. No idea what it means.

user-pic

And one on Great Titchfield Street.

user-pic

When I saw the one in Camden, I thought it was viral marketing for a band. Preferring, however, to think it's a mysterious clue for something wonderful, I ran to my nearest anagram solver at wordsmith.org.

Sadly, all I came up with was a warning about footwear that we thought was on better behaviour but may be secretly plotting to kick and smash your favourite garden ceramics:

A REHABBED SHOE KILLS POT

user-pic

there is one on chancery lane on the Kings college building and on tower bridge as well.

user-pic

My workmate saw it somewhere around Holborn Circus too.

user-pic

Natwest Bank, Edgware Road. Gets around, this one.

user-pic

and there's one on farringdon road, right around the corner from the tube station. I wondered about it yesterday -- glad its not just me.

user-pic

and there's one on Kingsway (Alexandra House)

user-pic

theres one on the top of st. stephens tower

user-pic

I've seen the one aroung holbern circus and one on hornsey road outside the Emeriates stadium! What is it all about?

user-pic

Plus Newman Street, at the Oxford Street end. I'll be gutted if this is just an advertising stunt.

user-pic

I've seen the one by Kings College and I saw another one on Ebury St SW1 today

user-pic

For anyone as nerdy as me, here's a map of all the sightings so far:

Wembley Park Tube Station last Monday

user-pic

Same appeared in Hamburg and (according to Google hits) in the Nederlands.

user-pic

And to add to the mediocre places to see it, 'ALPHABET' has been scrawled on the support of a bridge over the M20, near Maidstone.

user-pic

On the side of the Abbey bank, Gracechurch Street, near the Monument.

user-pic

By the Tesco near City Thameslink station

user-pic

I have seen two in under a week one on a crowd control barrier outside the emirates stadium and one outside boots on regents street. Whats that about??

user-pic

I saw it scrawled outside Lloyds of London this morning

user-pic

Glad to see this page. I created a facebook group called "Alphabet of Brooke Shields" earlier to try to get more info...

There's also a complete "Alphabet of Brooke Shields" on City Road now.

I love the simplicity of it. I just hope it isn't publicity for some crappy band.

user-pic

..and it has also shown up on some buildings and bridges over here, in the southeast of the Netherlands (city of Venlo to be more precise)...

user-pic

Also one on Tower Bridge, near the Tower itself.

user-pic

Beat this.... Saw one on a bridge on the M20 between junction 4 and 5!!! Thats OUTSIDE london!!

user-pic

i think the guy in the netherlands did, mate

user-pic

Its probably for a band, maybe copying The Stone Roses?

user-pic

I saw one at Green Park Station, looks like the papers are picking up on it too - was in the Metro this morning

user-pic

There is a person who wrote a post in here (thier name is Tone) "theres one on the top of st. stephens tower" - I dont think there is one on top of St Stephens Tower as it is definitely NOT open to the public, its the Tower the forms part of the House of Lords! are you telling porkies because you are part of this viral marketing bull****?

user-pic

This is clearly a call to arms for an anti-Semitic uprising. Brooke Shields is an anagram for BOILED KOSHERS. More coded clues will soon appear giving further instructions to the new dangerous faction.

user-pic

this seems to have the sticky finger prints of Mind Candy all over it... Perplexcity finished, maybe it's that time of year again.

user-pic

I'd love to know what it means - it has been puzzling me for weeks.

Btw, the one on the wall of the Regent Street Boots store has been scrubbed off this morning!

user-pic

It's to do with the band the no sleep police.

user-pic

Have one sighting at Paddington station, on the circle line platfrom towards Kings Cross, next to the Coke vending machine.

user-pic

Cheers for all your comments.
When you spot one, be as precise on location as you can, as we're making a map of these

This is all too bizarre - the words FROZEN INDIGO ANGEL have been appearing all over the place in a similar way. There's been a Londonist article linking that with BROOKE SHIELDS ALPHABET, which seemed like madness - maybe they were right after all!

For the latest on FIA, check out pauldenchfield.com.

Also seen at Highbury & Islington tube. Not the bets bit of grafitti there though. That honour goes to 'Jon Bowen fists pigs.'

user-pic

There is (was?) one at Trafalgar Square, nearest the green lawn of the National Gallery. My friends and I even saw a man write the words and walk off. Not knowing what this conspiracy was back then, I'm sure we would have stopped him! Photo on my Facebook.

user-pic

theres one on the wastbound cnetral line platform at oxford circus

user-pic

Mabe its a retard with nothing better to do ?

user-pic

i saw one of these signs today at the side of a ATM cash machine at 122 Wembley drive Middlex HA9 and it looks exactly like the picture.

user-pic

The one in Eltham on the A2 is in the Well Hall Road underpass.

user-pic

Maybe I am over-analyzing but the handwriting does look similar to the My Space graffiti that was going around a few months ago...

user-pic

ive seen this scrawled on an underpass between the the border of france/germany and Lyons...peculiar! thats why i googled it in the 1st place...
