We loved Maximo Park when they first appeared, we love them now, and we particularly love the fact that they once sang a bit of Billie Piper down the phone to us. Having checked them out at a small Scala gig two weeks ago, we've got no doubt that their new material is as good as the old.
After creating an overnight queue of 1000 people wanting tickets in Argyll Street last week, they played a tiny gig at the 100 Club on Oxford Street last night. But if you missed it they're staying in town all week and you can catch them at one of two free gigs.
First up they'll be doing an instore-performance and signing session at HMV Oxford Street on Wednesday at 6pm, and then on Thursday they'll be off to Pure Groove Records on Holloway Road for a show that also starts at 6. Pop fact! : Pure Groove funded the band's first demo in 2004. Well done them.
Go, it'll be worth it.
