The stuff you find on the tube:

An unpublished novel by renowned author Jeanette Winterson has been found at an Underground station in south London. The Stone Gods, by the writer of Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, is not due to be published until September. Martha Oster, 27, said she was "amazed" when she found the 134-page manuscript lying on a bench at Balham station on Wednesday night.

Penguin claim it was accidentally forgotten, but we suspect that this is just the beginning of a major new form of advance publicity to follow on from forcing all authors to have blogs - even dead ones.

We look forward to seeing these kinds of back cover blurbs on upcoming novels by Stephen King and Tom Clancy:

"Unputdownable and absorbent," said beardy guy of no fixed abode.

"More believable than the Standard," said John on the District and Circle Line.

"I used it to shield my phonecam when taking upskirt shots," says Flickr user tubeknickersnapper75.

"I thought it was going to hate my freedom so called the police who destroyed it in a controlled explosion," says Mary Lou from Nevada.
