Londonist Introduces ... Wolf & Cub

What's the skinny?

Wolf & Cub are Joel Byrne, Adam Edwards, Thomas Mayhew and Joel Carey, four guys from Adelaide who make a big stompy rock noise.

What have they done?

Their website says:

Wolf & Cub have shared stages with TV On The Radio, The Killers, The Music, Wolfmother, Queens of the Stone Age, Hot Hot Heat, Futureheads, and Death From Above 1979… played blistering sets nationwide on this years Big Day Out… performed at Meredith Music Festival and Homebake… and headlined their own national tour.

Busy boys, then.

Why do we want to know this?

Because Josh Homme specifically requested that they tour with him. Because they’re ace. Oh, and because they’re playing a gig tonight at The Macbeth in Hoxton. Go see, go see.

You may also wish to know that new single “This Mess” is released on 19th March on 4AD, with debut album “Vessels” following on 2nd April.

Check out EPKs, live videos and all kinds of lovely treats on their Media page and have a listen on My Space here.

Absolutely no danger of shrimps bring thrown on any kind of Barbie.

I saw them at the Old Blue Last last night; they were great. Somewhere between Neu! and the Stone Roses in full 70s-psych overdrive.

Their album has been out in Australia since last year or so, and is well worth picking up.

It's good to see that post-Ivo 4AD is finding a direction as a clearinghouse for quality independent bands from all over the world; first they snapped up Beirut, and now Wolf & Cub.
